A true architectural masterpiece, the castle of Vaux-le-Vicomte was created by the imagination of Louis XIV’s superintendent of finance, Nicolas Fouquet.
The latter called on the best artists of the period to build what is today France’s largest private monument: the architect Louis Le Vau, the painter Charles Le Brun and the landscape architect André Le Nôtre.
The result: a sumptuous building of 5000 square metres and 33 hectares of French-style gardens.
The castle is so sumptuous that it would have made Louis XIV jealous.
